However, it lacks all of those elements that really made Fallout what it was. It's got decent graphics, functional gameplay, and a Skinnerian cycle of kill, loot, repeat. So, I've said before that Fallout 4 is a good game, but a miserable Fallout. I just think expectations should be managed when it comes the 'RPG' side of things.īoy, you really put your hand in the hornet's nest with this one. So is Fallout 4 as good as 3? I think it's better. Still suffers from bullet sponges like every other bethesda published game, but the gunplay is fun and there is some decent weapon choice. But 4's gameplay is easily the best to me. Unfortunately the RPG mechanics are almost entirely gone, it's the most illusion-of-choicey of the 3, and I still hold the opinion that giving the PC a voice and well-established backstory is one of the biggest mistakes in the franchise's history. You'll be looking up and down more than the other games, using jumping and jetpacks much more, and it pays off I think. For a city that is supposed to be a bustling oasis so successful that it is basically its own independent nation, it sure is dead and boring. But each game has its own unique problems. Obviously each of them can be very buggy messes (4 being the least buggy in my experience) and have dev teams that would rather let modders do all the work than do it themselves, after all, Skyrim isn't going to port itself. New Vegas is the king of characters and dialogue in my book, 3 has a great world, and 4 has the best overall gameplay. 'As good' being the modifier here, I think it's better than 3, and NV is better than 4, so yes and no.
